Secondary · Years 7–9
Secondary school asks more of every subject.
Maths, English and Science for Years 7 to 9, taught by subject specialists in two-hour sessions of no more than five. £18 a session. Help for children who have fallen behind, and stretch for children who are ready for it.

What changes in Year 7
New subjects, faster topics, more on your own.
New topics rest on old ones
Algebra, ratio and probability lean on fractions, decimals and number fluency from primary school. When those are shaky, the new topic looks like the problem. We teach both together.
From answers to arguments
Pupils are asked to make an inference, back it with evidence, and explain how a writer creates meaning, then organise their own writing into clear arguments and comparisons.
One subject becomes three
Biology, Chemistry and Physics, plus working scientifically: variables, tables and graphs, measurements, and drawing conclusions from evidence.
In a session
Taught by someone who knows the subject.
Each group is one subject, with a tutor who specialises in it. Your child works from their own starting point while the tutor teaches, checks and corrects.
“his hands ragged and scarred, with black, broken nails; and the sabre cut across one cheek”
Treasure Island, chapter 1
Behind in Year 7? That is fine.
Your child starts from the level the assessment finds, even if that is below their year group.
Already doing well?
If the foundations are secure, we move them on and set work that stretches them.
Ready for what comes next
Years 7 to 9 build the knowledge GCSE uses, so pupils who carry on with us into GCSE keep the same approach.
Who teaches Science?
A science specialist. We teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics from Year 7 through to GCSE.
Can my child do just one subject?
Yes. Each subject is taught in its own sessions, so you choose what your child needs. The assessment helps you decide.
How will I know it’s working?
You get a structured progress update every half term, and we contact you sooner if something needs raising. You can also ask at the door, call or message us at any time.
Start with an assessment
Find out what is secure, and what needs work.
A free assessment in Maths, English or Science gives us a clear picture of where your child is now. We mark it, then talk you through what we found.
