What we teach in Years 4 to 6.
Science starts from Year 7.
- Mathsfluency → precision
-
Across Years 4 to 6, we build the fluency needed for times tables, fractions, decimals, percentages, written calculations and problem solving. We don’t just practise the question in front of us; we look for the skill underneath it that is making the work difficult.
- Englishdecoding → evidence
-
We teach pupils to explain their answers using evidence from the text, and to turn their ideas into clear, organised writing — building sentences, choosing vocabulary, using punctuation accurately, and planning and improving a piece.
Questions about primary tuition.
Is Year 4 too early?
Year 4 is the earliest we teach. If we don’t think tuition would help yet, we’ll tell you.
Two hours is a long time for a nine-year-old.
It isn’t spent on one task. Your child reviews previous work, learns, practises and gets support as they work — and we don’t have to rush the part they find difficult. See what a session contains →
Is a group enough, or does my child need one-to-one?
It depends on the child. With no more than five pupils per tutor, there is room for individual support while they work. Where a child needs a different kind of support, we’ll say so.
Start with where your child is now.
A free assessment gives us a starting point. We look at your child’s current Maths or English, then talk you through what we found and where we think tuition could help.
